My husband, a friend and I were out for dinner at out favorite Mexican restaurant. This was the first time we had been to the restaurant in a while since my husband had been on a very restricted diet for several months. We couldn't believe it when we were brought the domino and told that someone had paid for our dinner. We sat and talked about the experience and how good it feels to do something for someone without getting any recognition for it.

I was in a Professor's class (Clayton Lewis), and I heard about the Domino Effect Essay. I thought it would be an interesting thing to attempt, and it turned out to create some opportunities, including the possibility of attending the Telluride Tech Fest. I would recommend anyone to at least write the essay, it opens up a world of possibility if you win. It's not a big thing, but just going out there and doing something simple (like writing an essay), that you don't usually do can lead to some really cool opportunities. It's all about trying everything that's put in front of you.

I was at the first annual John Breaux Clean Up Day, on May 9, 2009, in Louisville, Colorado to capture the day's events by video taping speakers and to interview community members and friends of John Breaux in order to know how John Breaux has touched their lives. Jared Polis shared a great message about how John inspired him and leading all of us to serve our communities. Congressman Polis introduced and connected Herb Morreale... we shared what each of us are working on - in our communities. Jared has a knack of connecting people and letting us see how we can support each other in our causes and learn about other causes that support and help the greater good. John Breaux was an extraordinary man who touched many lives in Louisville and Lafayette, Colorado. He was suddenly killed in January by a car, while picking up trash on the side of the road. He was doing what he loved to do most: Serving his community by keeping it clean, smiling and waiving at everyone. Approximately 4,000 people attended his memorial service at Flatirons Community Church, which was extremely inspiring. That afternoon, I rode my bike to the highway where John was killed and reflected. I was inspired to do something BIG and make a difference. At that point, I decided that I wanted to spread the word by creating a media avenue to share and inspire other communities to do what John did for our communities. I made a commitment to my community and myself that I will succeed to create a documentary that gets people excited about paying it forward and wanting to participate in doing some "Random Acts of Kindness". Let's carry on John Breux' legacy throughout the country!

I was given this domino for being a recipient of the Domino Award through the University of Colorado's Computer Science department. I was able to meet with Prof. Lewis and Mr. Morreale where we discussed the purpose of the Topplers program and the idea from which it grew. Having been a recipient of the Domino Award, I hope to spread word of the Topplers program and "Set Big Things in Motion." It fascinates me how end results are often the result of a well defined chain of events, or perhaps something more appropriately described by the toppling of dominoes. I believe this program can inspire me, among others, to pursue goals and to never hesitate to take the first step. You never know where it may lead.

I was eating dinner at Adobe Grill Restaurant on N. Wells Street in Chicago. My son wanted to order dinner, but I told him I only had enough cash for guacamole and chips. The waiter had taken our order already. He returned and told us our dinner was taken care of. We were told to order a meal each and dessert. It was crowded and I couldn't tell from the faces who my benefactor was. I thank them for their help and caring. I am not poor, but I do consider myself blessed and lucky!

In 1998 I noticed that the 1st National Bank Bldg. in Telluride, Co was looking really bad. It had been built in 1891 by L.L. Nunn who along with Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse had built the world's first AC commercial grade power plant in Telluride and had been allowed to deteriorate to the point where the corner tower had to be removed for safety reasons and the building itself was just crumbling. Having lived in Telluride since 1971, I was well aware of the story, but it seemed that the Telluride government would not enforce its building codes against the current owners since they were afraid that the only movie theater in town which was housed in the building would be shut down. The owners soon figured this out and just let it crumble. Since I knew the owners, I called them and we made an agreement that they would cooperate with me in putting together buyers and investors to purchase and first stabilize the building and ultimately restore it to its former grandeur. I had in former years been involved in restoring four other buildings which were also classified as National Historic Landmark buildins in the town and new that it would be a big job but also rewarding. It didn't take too long to put together a plan with the Colorado State Historical Society who were very interested in savings and restoring the building. The person I talked with at the State was Hal Hutchinson and he was enthusiastic in his support. Later, he put me in touch with the Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington D.C. and the Director, Richard Moe who was also very supportive. The historical resoration effort led to me meeting many people with a heart-felt concern for community and historic buildings. I met specialists in many areas including Felicia Harmon from Loveland, Co who was an expert in restoring building with a specialization in old theaters. Ceta, as we called her was very good at what she did and enthusiastic in her support of the project, but supportive in general of me and my family. In 2000, when I decided to start the Telluride Tech Festival (www.telluridetechfestival.com) Ceta pitched right in. She insisted on introducing to two old friends of hers who were from Boulder. Their names were Herb and Trent and through the years they have become close friends, business partners and allies. Herb is the person that gave me the domino. I can only imagine, based on my past experience, where this one will lead.

Just wanted to report that Herb presented the latest thinking in Domino Theory at the 2008 Telluride Technology Festival on Aug 2. A number of people commented that they were inspired by the talk, and a few of the dominos handed out have been registered (hopefully more soon). Domino Theory is beginning to get more exposure. Thanks to everyone who's supported this fun and crazy project!

So what happened to us: We travelled through California in May 08. On the last day of our trip in San Frascico we wanted to return to Moki's Japanese Grill and Restaurant to have delicious sushi! We parked our rental car, an Chevi Cobalt, my dear brother Adrian locked the car keys with all our belongings in the car's trunk!!! Only our purses were unlocked. So we were looking for a puplic phone - not so easy to find one that is working... and there was already a line in front of Moki's... we tried to call the rental company to ask for help. They told us that they will send us a "mechanic". We wated, wated, wated... Already getting despaired. Hours later, they came but didn't manage to open the trunk and left. To mention also that it was 10 o'clock by now. How to get somebody else that knew how to open the car??? With the help of Moki's owner and his team! They called at least a 100times to get somebody - and finally at about midnight, the car was unlocked! In the middle of the dinner one of the waiters told us that there will be a surprise for us-at the end... And really, some loveley person payed our dinner! What kindness in this world-we were so touched!!! To feel that there is help and humanity in this sometimes weird world! Thanks so much!!!!!! May 16 was the birthday of my step-dads mom, who passed away 9 years ago. My mom and step-dad recently moved from Denver to Las Vegas for retirement, and this was the first time they would be unable to go to the grave site. That day my dad called me and asked me if I would put flowers on the grave after work. I have never done this, so it was a challenge since I didn’t know exactly where his parents were buried. Honestly, this had been quite a burden, since I work in the Tech Center-and live in North West Denver, and the cemetery is in South West Denver. It took me over an hour of rush hour traffic to get to the store, nearly 20 minutes in the store to get the flowers and a can of beer, and it was closing in on 6pm before I even got to the cemetery. To top it off, I couldn’t find the site. I actually found a friend of mine, who died 10 years ago and I put flowers on his grave. (I have only gone to his grave once….7 or 8 years ago). Finally, after searching for what felt like an eternity I found the grave! I placed the flowers for the birthday, and I poured a beer for tradition. At that point, I was so happy I completed this task for my dad. After this, I was so exhausted from work, traffic, and searching….all I wanted to do is have a nice dinner with my boyfriend. We never go to this restaurant anymore because their prices have jumped so much in the past year. We decided to go anyway, and treat ourselves to one of our favorite places. Dinner was amazing, and the food was delicious. At the end, our server brought us our bill, and all it had in it was the domino and slip. “Someone has decided to take care of your bill tonight, and they said to have a great weekend.� We couldn’t believe it; we asked him if we were on some type of hidden-camera show. When he replied to us that nothing was asked from us, and that someone had honestly picked up our tab, we nearly fell out of our chairs. How could someone do this? It puzzled our minds all weekend. We sat silent at the table, walked out silent, and really had no conversation on the way home. We were both so stunned at this act of kindness and generosity; we didn’t know what to say or how to act. We both have never experienced this feeling before, but we loved it. And we loved it so much we can not wait to share this with someone too. I wish I could tell you how stressed I felt before dinner, and how grateful we both felt after. We would love to thank the table who did this…but since we can’t, we will say a prayer for you and return this generosity to someone new to experience it. PS: We did have a great weekend, we even looked at diamond rings.....Thank you so much!

i was reading some blogs on SodaHead today. they happened to be about the California Gay Marriage court decision and the democratic presidential nomination process - but they could have been about anything. What struck me was the nastiness. Just the lack of civility and lack of thoughtfulness in many many of the posts. I'd like to chalk it up to anonymity, but I don't think that's it. I think we've just gotten kinda nasty as a culture. That's why I like Domino Theory. It's a reason to do a surprisingly nice act to a total stranger. Like an April Fools joke, but in a good, decent, kind way. It's not about charity. It's about interacting with other people who live amongst us, just for fun. To elevate our community by surprising each other with something nice. Honestly, I had a blast - with seven other people, hitting the restaurants of Boulder, CO. What a great reason to hang out with friends. It was a delightful evening and i highly recommend it to anyone. It's so not about the money. order a domino! pass it on.

On May 16, 2008, we participated in the "Buy Dinner for a Stranger" night. We bought dinner for a couple not too far from our table. My wife and I were eating dinner at the Mountain Sun. We live in Fort Collins and had come down to pick up some things from REI and decided to go have a beer and some food in downtown Boulder. Towards the end of our meal, our server came by and took the tab, I assumed that either he had forgotten to put something on the tab or my wife had decided to pay the tab. After a few minutes I asked my wife if she had paid for the tab and she said no, so I assumed that he was adding up the bill and coming back with the total. When he came back he asked if there would be anything else, and when we told him no, he informed us that someone had picked up our tab and introduced us to the domino. He tried to give us the rundown on how it worked but he wasn't entirely sure and recommended we check out the website and decide for ourselves. Not quite sure what to make of it, I hailed him back over to our table to have him explain it one more time, and to find out if the tip had been included by our generous tab payer. We in turn tipped our waiter and proceeded to leave in a somewhat confused manner, but very interested in bringing this phenomenon to Fort Collins. So, to the generous tab payer, thanks for the act of kindness and know that it will be continued.

On the evening we obtained the domino, we decided to celebrate a Friday night at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I am eight months pregnant with our first baby and with her upcoming arrival, my husband and I are trying to enjoy our last couple months as a twosome. Our server appeared to be dropping off the check, but when we looked closer it was a domino and flyer stating that our dinner was already paid for. To be expected, we were confused and skeptical at first but after questioning our server he stated that another guest had paid the bill on our behalf and but he couldn't provide any other information. This was an incredibly nice gesture and we only wish we could have thanked the people responsible. This will be a great story to tell our baby girl when she's older to show her how people still do good things for each other. Again, thank you and the impact of this experience will not be forgotten.

I puzzled over how to give away this domino in Singapore. I keep eating at very busy little food stands where nobody speaks much English. And I sure speak neither Chinese nor Hindi! But, this afternoon, I wandered into a coffee shop staffed by two English speaking women. I explained that I wanted to buy coffee for the next person who came in. They seemed amenable to the idea, and I saw them hand the domino over to the next young man who walked through the door. He was a straight fellow and didn't even smile, but I saw him looking over the instructions and flipping the domino over and over. With luck, you'll hear from him. This coffee cost more than any meal I've eaten here, so it was not exactly a cheapskate maneuver either.

I was running errands after a long day at work. Tried to get my hair cut but after waiting over 1/2 an hour (when they had told me it would just be "a few minutes") I left and instead got the oil changed in my car. By then it was after 7:00 and I was hungry, so I went to a nearby McDonald's for a cheeseburger meal. When I ordered in the drive-thru the employee never told me my amount due, and I remember thinking "maybe they have some special going." Instead, when I drove around to pay my bill, the employee gestured to the car in line in front of me and told me the "nice lady" in that car had paid for my meal. The employee then handed me a domino and the form explaining Toplers. I guessed it was a "pay it forward" type of deal. The employee seemed both pleased and a little flustered by the whole process. I am very excited about continuing this and I am trying to decide which restaurant to pick.

Ashley and I went to the Mountain Sun on East Pearl. As we started scouting the restaurant for recipients, I noticed a couple with a young son PLAYING WITH DOMINOS at a booth nearby! If that wasn't a sign then I don't know what is, and Ash and I just had a good feeling about it in general. We told the waiter our plan and watched him take care of the bill. We could tell that the family was surprised and excited, looking around to see who paid for it. Our waiter told the manager what we were doing, and they thought it was such a great idea that they comped my beer! It was a lot of fun picking out the people and anticipating their reaction. We'll definitely do this again in the future. Can't wait to see if they claim the domino.

We just came home from Uncle Julio's in Chicago after enjoying a great dinner with our little guy Nate. Our friend Adam got us interested in participating in this and tonight was the first night. Our family visited our local Red Robin restaurant and had a friend with us. We were eating early since everyone had somewhere else to be, but we still like to try to have a family meal. We ordered and received our food very quickly. We enjoyed our meal together and the waitress (who had been very nice throughout the meal) brought our "check" and announced that our meal had been bought by someone else. She showed us the envelope with the explanation and the domino. It was a really fun surprise! It is amazing how special a act of kindness can make you feel. Our children really thought it was cool and it was good for them to experience. Thanks to whoever made our night -- we will definitely be passing it on!!

My very dear friend Herb has this incredibly intuitive theory that he's been describing to me for years. Now he's materializing it into something more than a theory and has asked me to be part of that transformation. I am honored and touched. I hope that I can embody the concept by devising a topple of my own. I remember clearly the day he described topple one to me over lunch. The passion and enthusiasm in his voice and eyes was beamed across the table to me and I have since been thinking ... What *am* I passionate about in life? What really matters to me, especially as it relates to impacting other people? How can I turn that into the first domino in a topple? Over another lunch, Herb gave me the domino - the physical manifestation of the concept - I repeatedly rubbed off the number as it tumbled around my pocket and he repeatedly tried to make it more permanent - seems my skin oil is fiercely corrosive ;-) I need to find a place where it reminds me to think about setting big things into motion. I will! I've delightedly hopped on the topple-two bandwagon and am looking forward to the experience of buying a stranger dinner. But that's just the tip of the iceberg... or is that the tip of the domino? So my current thoughts about what I'm passionate about: Blood donation, Helping beautiful young people transform into beautiful young adults (currently doing it through scouts), finding inner peace, seeing beauty in life around me, working with others to grow as a human being, my wife and my children. I got an email from my daughter-in-law, who explained the purpose of the domino (pay it forward) and watched the video of the domino effect. I started thinking of the ramafications of great numbers of people who intend to do good and the ability to magnify their efforts by geometric proportions. Millions of deeds, dollars, prayers, letters or people, could be set in motion with a single stroke. The simple experiment on May 16th will be a fun and practical example of what can happen. There should be great karma on that day as we all "pay it forward." I personally, can't wait.

The idea of sacrifice is actually something we've recently been talking about proactively doing more of. So I ordered a domino for us to pass along. Turns out, he ordered one too!! So now we have two dominoes we get to use on May 16 - we'll be in Washington DC, so they'll already have travelled across the states on their first topple.

Our family obtained this domino to take part in the "Buy Dinner for a Stranger - Pay It Forward" topple. Tom and I knew we wanted to include our boys so the four of us have been discussing where to go to eat and how much fun it will be to pick out a table and pay their bill! I noticed a pile of domino's in our friends garage as I was dropping off their 8 year old kid and asked him what they being used for. He very excitedly and quickly told me "My mom and dad always do this really cool thing where they buy someone dinner when they are out for their anniversery and now they are sharing the idea with lots of people and..." I kind of lost him in there somewhere but my curiosity was peaked. I followed up with the parents and am now the proud owner of a domino! It is fun to be a part of this, and I can't wait to track it! Who knows, maybe it will come back to me one day?

Google Map for Topple Two Night

I've added an embedded Google Map to the main Topple Two Page. Now, as we receive requests to participate in Topple Two Night we will add a new point on the map. Check out the bottom of the Topple Two Page to see the map! Before long I would like to add a Google Map to each main topple page. I think it's pretty cool getting to see where all the dominos are going (especially as this site grows). We sure hope you will join us for Topple Two Night. It's going to be a lot of fun. All you need to do is mail info@toplers.com saying that you are interested.

I've made a number of changes to the website lately: - Tried to simplify the text. - Improved the registration/join process so any "claimed" dominos you might have are automatically put on your "My Topples" page. - Changed the account creation method so that an email is automatically sent with instructions on how to register. - Added several "admin" functions so I can change information in the Toplers database when I need to. Please let me know if/when things don't work as you expect. Thanks.
